club review

Hiya gang, I can't really add any more to what Ian has said:

'I have to say that I had high expectations for last night, as Lorna has been working tirelessly for weeks. The night came and simply didn't live up to my expectations...  IT EXCEEDED ANY OF MY FEEBLE EXPECTATIONS BY MILES, which rhymes with Roydan Styles. Sorry couldn't resist that! I won't name names co's everyone was simply top of the shop. It will take some following and it was nice to see my good friends again. There was a twinge of sadness co's Molly couldn't have joined in he would have loved this night!'

It really was a brilliant night thanks to Roydan, Nicki and all the Musicians and Poets that made it great, thank you Steve, Stuart, Steven, Ian, Jack, Gordon, Des, Johnny, Rob, J.P. Slidewell for making our Christmas party go with a bang (Balloons that is!) Also a big thank you to Jim and Co, who borrowed a camcorder to record  party, I will put it on Facebook and the Blog when I get it off Jim. Last Friday was the last club night of this year, we will reopen on the 10th of January with J.P. Slidewell. Have a great Christmas and New Year everyone and thank you for supporting the club and there's lots more to come in 2014, lots of luv Lxx

club review

Hiya gang, well I said we had the making's of a good night, what we got was an absolutely brilliant night! Unfortunately our resident singer Ian Sproson was unable to be there due to family commitments, so Steven Ireland started the evening off for us and really set the bar. Jack McCully followed with his unique style of Scottish and humorous songs, we then had a gentleman Johnny Rep who hasn't been to the club before and said he was extremely nervous, but he didn't need to be 'cause he was really good. Steve Woolley and Stuart Thompson were on top form as usual, Dave Gordon also performed he pointed out it was about 12 months since he'd at the club, the rest of the night was taken up by Guest Roydan Styles and his friend Anthony 'Bongo Fury'. Poor Nicki was unable to make it due to cold/flu symptoms, get well soon, Nicki, we really missed you xx. Roydan and Anthony were absolutely brilliant, although they were playing the whole second half of the night, they invited different Musicians to join in. At one point, every Musician was playing 'Take's a Worried Man'. I noticed a couple on members were recording it on their Mobile's, I asked them to forward me the footage so I can post it on here for you to see. Well done Roydan and Anthony, thank you for a great evening.

Roydan is the Guest Musician at the Christmas party, on the 13th of December, he would like to invite any Musicians to come and play along with him. The lovely Michelle Holding and Bonz, was Guest Musicians at last years party, she and Bonz truly were excellent, let's hope they can make it too. Hope to see you all on the 13th, fancy dress is optional lol! Luv Lxx

club update

Hiya gang, hope you're all well, just a short reminder that this week is a Guest week. Our Guest it the extremely talented, Roydan Styles and his equally talented wife, Nicki. Roydan has been a Guest in the past and is hugely popular, he recently appeared on Oldham Community Radio with Ian and myself, which was great fun. So with regular artists, Steve Woolley, Stuart Thompson and Jack & Gordon McCully, it has the makings of a good night. Club starts 20:30, hope to see you there, luv Lxx

13/11/2013

club update

Hiya gang, Hope you're all well, it's been an interesting week this week. I was invited onto 'Sounds of Folk' at Oldham Folk Radio which is run by two lovely people, Ali O'Brien and Bernard Cromarty, our resident singer, Ian 'Sproggy' Sproson and out next Guest the fabulous, Roydan Styles. We all had a great time joining in with Sproggy's songs, what great harmonies! If you missed it the show is repeated at 5pm on 99.7 FM. This week it's a Singer/Musician/Poet's night at the club, so anyone is welcome to come along and perform or come along and just listen since there is always other regular members who come and perform. Singer's nights are there for Singer/Musician's to play to an audience without pressure or to try out a new song, we are able to allocate more time than we can on a Guest night. Club starts 20:30 hope to see you Friday, luv L xx

friday review

Hiya gang, sorry for the late review, but time got away from me. Friday night . . . what a brilliant night! A big thank you to the wonderful Mike Bowden firstly for standing in at such short notice when Alun Parry cancelled and secondly for an excellent night of great songs and his infamous poem, which Mike says he only ever does at our club. We also had brilliant songs and music from Ian 'Sproggy' Sproson, Jack and Gordon McCully, Steve Woolley, Dave King and non other than Birthday Boy Stuart Thompson lol! It's not easy to pull the wool over Stuart's eyes, but we did lol! We had gotten a Tankard which was engraved from us, with a cheeky addition from friend Mike Harding, it left Stuart lost for words for once apart from being 'Reet Chuffed' lol! So a good time was had by all. I'd also like to say a big thanks to Steve at Ourglass Crystal Engravings for helping out at the last minute, have a look at some of Steve's fantastic work on Ourglass Crystal Engravings

The next club night is the 15th of November which is a Singer/Musician/Poet's night, anyone is welcome to come along and perform, we've had some brilliant singers and musician come to our singer's nights recently, new performers as well as well known musicians. So Hope to see you there, luv L xx

P.S. Listen on Monday to Sounds of Folk with Ali O'Brien at Oldham Community Radio show FM 99.7 for live performances from Ian Sproson, Roydan Styles and more from the Club, oh and me lol!

30/10/2013

club update

Hiya Gang, hope you're all okay and wasn't affected to much by the recent horrendous weather, as many of you will know the last few months we've had some fantastic Singers and Musicians come to the club and this Friday will be no exception! Our guest is a well known friend and supporter at the club, the brilliant Mike Bowden. Mike is a well known singer/songwriter from North Manchester, his style of music is more Blues based than Folk, but excellent and not to be missed as it's always a good night! Club starts 20:30, hope to see you there, luv L xx

24/10/2013

club review

Hiya gang, yet another brilliant Singer's night it was not so much quantity but the quality, Ian summed up the night on his facebook post: "Just a quick note on last night. It's gotta be short cos there's only one way to describe it. Fantastic never seen so much talent assembled on a club night for as long as I can remember. Twas like the good old days and here's to many more like this, although last night will take some following. You may ask why haven't I named names well it's because everyone who was there was so good no one could have failed to enjoy the variety on offer."

I'll try my best Ian, lol! The names Ian didn't mention were: Jack McCully and his son Gordon (Not a Duo), Steve Woolley and Stuart Thompson, a new musician to our club but well known within the Folk scene "Banjo" John Brown and his lovely wife Connie who promises to bring her guitar with her next time to duet with John, so that's something well worth looking forward to. Our next Club night is 1st of November when our Guest is renown Folk and Blues singer/songwriter, the excellent Mike Bowden, please note, as it is a Guest night time does not allow for many floor spots so please contact me if you want to be a floor singer. Club starts at 20:30 hope to see you there, luv L xx

clb review

Hiya gang, well I did tell you to expect a good night . . . it was a fantastic night! Bo Weavil was the guest and they didn't disappoint, it's not often we can afford a band, they were worth every penny and more! Bo Weavil normally a 5 piece - Dave Layton (Drums), Dom Dunill (Fiddle), Mark Ross (Guitar), Tommy 'Musical' Rushton (Bass) and Lee Webster (Banjo & Dobro) but Lee was unable to make it. The Band write a lot of their own arrangements or take songs and add their unique style to them, most are 50's 60's Blues Folk and Bluegrass, not only are they musically excellent, their harmonies are second to none, truly fantastic! Even "Eagles Style" it's a band you should look out for to see or book! Their next gig is the 26th of October at The Diggle Band Club in Saddleworth and the 17th of November at The Hare & Hound in Todmorden, you won't be disappointed! For history and information of Bo Weavil, how they formed and more go to Bo Weavil

I'd like to thank the floor singers who also played for us, Ian 'Sproggy' Sproson Happy Birthday for Wednesday the 9th of October, Jack McCully, Steven Ireland, Steve Woolley, Stuart Thompson, Joanna, Little David, Keith and the gang from Bacup Folk Club. All excellent in their own right, luv L xx

02/10/2013

club update

Hiya gang, for those of you who didn't read the club update, Bo Weavil's style of music is American 50's & 60's Folk, Country and Bluegrass, see you there, club starts 20:30, luv L xx

01/10/2013

club update

Hiya gang, hope you're all well, this week is a club week and also a Guest night and what a Guest we have or should I say 'Guests'. The Guests this week is the exceptional Bo Weavil, who are a band of five young Musicians who play: Fiddle, Banjo, Dobro, Guitar, Bass and Drums. They've not played much in Manchester area, only the outskirts, they're a lively foot tapping group and well worth seeing. There will not be many floor spots so you need to contact me prior to avoid missing out, look forward to seeing you Friday, luv L xx

club review

Hiya gang, sorry there was no review for last Friday, but the week has been hectic and I was unable to get it done, but as Singer's nights go it was fab! We had new members, plus Jack, Gordon, Steven and Paul were all in fine 'fettle' and Ian 'Sproggy' Sproson always gets everyone in a singing mood! It was nice to see the brilliant Barry Hardman (Mr Mischief) back again, unfortunately had not brought his guitar, but I hope he brings it next time which is a Guest night, but I'm sure I can slot him in for a couple. Next week are the superb 5 piece folk band, Bo Weavil, who play a range of music including, American Folk from the 50/60's, I'll tell you more later in the week ahead, again I'm sorry the review is late, luv L xx

18/09/2013

We will still have our resident singer Ian 'Sproggy' Sproson, who is sure to make you feel at home, plus we have some regulars like Steve Woolley, also Jack and Gordon McCully and when he's available, Steven Ireland superb accordion player and One Man Band, so you'll be in good company. Club starts at 20:30 hope to see you there, luv L xx

10/09/2013

friday review

Hiya gang, brilliant night!!! I wish other people would post comments about the night too, the night started off with Ian 'Sproggy' Sproson with one of my favourite songs the 'Steak and Kidney Pie' song, lol! That seemed to start a theme of a serious song and comedic song, there was many floor singers including Jack and Gordon McCully, the brilliant Des Basterfield, Steve Woolley and Stuart Thomson who are like the dynamic duo or double trouble, lol! Steven Ireland was absolutely superb, playing songs from a melodion and his 'One Man Band' device. I have some recordings of Steven on the camcorder on my phone, as do quite a few members, we'll find the best and post it on the blog and facebook. The next club night is the 20th of September, which is a singers night, anyone is welcome to come along and perform. But there's always Ian Sproson, who is the resident singer, The McCully's will be there too, they're great, Jack sings the older songs from way back when and Gordon his son sings new songs plus his own works, which are excellent, plus they great fun too. Club starts 20:30, hope to see you there, luv L xx

05/09/2013

club update

Hiya gang, sorry the update is late, I got a new phone this week which caused untold problems you would not believe. Anyway kind of back to normal, lol! This week is a guest week, our guest is the fantastic, Steven Ireland, if you've not seen Steven, you're in for a real treat! A brilliant Musician, Steven plays an Accordion and a One Man Band. A lot of his music is Gypsy-Romanian style with Irish sometimes thrown in, every time he's come to the club as a floor spot, he has members clapping and whooping, lol! There was an occasion when the Landlady said she thought the ceiling was going to cave in, lol! I'm sure we're in for a good night, plus with our usual singers it's well worth coming. Club starts 20:30 hope to see you there, luv L xx

26/08/2013

club review

Hiya gang, Singer's nights are getting better each time, recently an old friend from the Cleveland Folk Club last time round found us again, by googling "Folk on Fridays!". Well know Scottish singers Jack McCully and his son Gordon were great fun with Jack singing broad Scottish Folk songs, which no one could understand, to humorous Lancashire songs. Plus Jack had forgotten his hearing aid, so on occasion it was hilarious as Gordon had to repeat what we were telling him lol! Gordon played and sang some of his own songs, which really were excellent, but we missed our very own Ian Sproson, who will be back on September 6th. Steve Woolley also joined us and sang, trying to play his 12 string guitar, it turned out to be a really good night, Jack said he was going to go home to polish up on his repertoire of Lancashire Folk songs, lol! The next club night is September 6th when our guest is Steven Ireland accordion player extraordinaire, club starts at 20:30 hope to see you there, luv L xx

21/08/2013

club update

Hiya gang, just a short note to remind you Friday is club night. This week is a Singer/Musician/Poet's night so anyone is welcome to come and perform and as there is no guest any performer will have longer to play. Unfortunately, Ian 'Sproggy' Sproson won't be able to make it so if anyone would like to help and be our 'Stand in' resident singer lol! Club starts 20:30 hope to see you there, luv L xx

13/08/2013

club review

Hiya gang, all I can do is reiterate on Roydan's and Ian's comments on the club's facebook page The New Cleveland Folk Club Unplugged and although there was a din downstairs, which was booked in error, it really couldn't be heard upstairs. It really was a fantastic night with Ian, Roydan Styles and his wife Nicky, Garron Frith who got quite carried away dancing around the room while playing, lol! As well as father/son duo Jack and Gordon McCully who have supported the club over many years but lost touch, but were quite pleased when they found us online last week. Jack sang for us and Gordon threatens to in the future, thank you to you all! I'd like to point out our guest for the night should have been Phil Hare, however he failed to materialise, I understand he sent a text to a club member who he had asked to get him a booking at the club some time ago and agreed to the terms, conditions and fee. It's a shame he didn't have the common courtesy to inform me he wasn't going to turn up in a reasonable time to arrange an alternative. I can only assume his failure to attend his booking was because I was unable to arrange accommodation for him, requested by his wife two days before his performance.

The next club night is on the 23rd of August, club starts at 20:30, hope to see you there, luv L xx

08/08/2013

club update

Hiya gang, just a note to let you know that the new Cleveland Folk Club will be back this Friday. This is a guest night featuring the brilliant Phil Hare. He hasn't been to the club for a long time, so come and enjoy the evening with us. Club starts at 20:30 so hope to see you there, luv L xx

23/07/2013

club review

Hiya gang, well, what a brilliant night to end before the Summer Holidays. Ian started the night, nice to see him back to his old oops! young self lol! Then the wonderful Harry (Unfortunately we don't know his surname) but he's always uplifting singing great songs from Richard Thompson, Ralph McTell & The Kink's "Lazing on a sunny afternoon". Then great duets from Steve Woolley & Stuart Thompson despite the heat. Ian even a personal fan courtesy of the lovely Patsy, the photo will explain lol! Please note the club will be closed until Aug 9th when guest will be Phil Hare, enjoy the sunshine! We'll see you then, luv L xx

17/07/2013

club update

Hiya gang, this Friday is a Singer/Musician/poet's night, it's also the last club night before the Summer Holidays. Anyone can come along and perform, we have our regular Singers and Musicians, but it would be nice to see you, club starts 20:30 hope to see you there, luv L xx

10/07/2013

friday review

Hiya gang, well what a night, so sorry for the delay in posting the review. Thanks to everyone who made it on Friday and made it an excellent night, I was pretty sure Mike would be on top form and he didn't disappoint. As he mostly sings with a band it's only on his "Yearly solo gig" at our club he can sing what he wants to sing from his extensive repertoire. A big thanks to our lovely Ian "Sproggy" Sproson, unfortunately poor Sproggy had a problem with his knee last week and was taken to Hospital, although he put on a brave face and laughed and joked about, I could see he was in pain. So thanks sooo much Ian! It was also nice to see our "One man band" and superb accordion player, Steven Ireland, Steven's been busy with other things, plus still recovering from his hand injury some weeks ago. So I'm pleased to say he's back on form, plus we had regular singer/songwriter Steve Woolley, so they all contributed to make it a fantastic night. Next club night is July 19th, hope to see there, luv L xx

04/07/2013

club update

Hiya gang, hope everyone is well. This Friday is club night and also a guest week, our guest is the fabulous, Mike Bowden. Mike has been a long time supporter of the club, I'm sure most members will know Mike, his music is more Blues than Folk and really laid back lol! He really is well worth seeing if you haven't seen him before, plus there is a possibility Bob Williamson (Not Bolton's Bob Williamson) who had played and recorded CD's with Mike may be able to come to the club. There's always Musicians that come to accompany Mike and it's always a good night, if you don't know Mike there are a few recordings on Youtube to wet your appetite. Club starts at 20:30, hope to see you there, luv L xx

19/06/2013

club update

Hiya gang, just a short note, it's club week this week and it's a Singer/Musician/Poet's night, so anyone can come along to perform. Ian our resident singer will be there to provide plenty of music, plus Steve Woolley and Stuart Thompson Banjo, Mandolin and Guitarist extraordinaire will be there for a toe tapping music night lol! Club starts 20:30 hope to see you there, luv L xx

11/06/2013

friday night review

Hiya gang, well, what a great night Friday was, a big thanks to Des Basterfield who very kindly agreed to stand in as Alun Parry was double booked and was unable to perform at the club. Ian was on great form despite starting with a cold, hope you're feeling better today Sproggy! But Des was the star of the night with his very own style of percussion using a small suitcase and a drum foot pedal lol! He certainly didn't disappoint, thanks so much and thanks to Kevin for all your help! Next club night is June 21st, hope to see you all then, luv L xx

05/06/2013

quick update

Hiya gang, our guest this week will be the outstanding Des Basterfield, he describes his music as "Rock 'n' Roll, Folk via Reggae and swing with a bit of Anarchy thrown in for good measure." I would describe him as one of the best musicians around these days. If you've not seen him before, I can guarantee you will not be disappointed, but I've yet to see his famous 'Silver Shoes' lol! Club starts at 20:30 hope to see you down there, luv L xx

club update

Sorry gang, due to a double booking error, Alun Parry will be unavailable to play at the club on Friday, I will let you know as soon as I have an alternative confirmed, luv L xx

04/06/2013

friday night update

Hiya gang, just a short note to let you know this Friday is a guest night. Our guest is the superbly talented, Alun Parry, who is definitely well worth seeing. Alun has played at the club a couple of times and has a new repetiore each time, so I hope to see you there, luv L xx

24/05/2013

apologies

Hiya gang, due to circumstances completely out of my control, I apologise at such short notice but the club will be cancelled tonight. This is due to a mix up in dates and the Landlady has booked a guest downstairs who is well known in the music scene, the Singing Postman. My sincerest apologies, luv L xx

23/05/2013

update

Hiya gang, just another short note, unfortunately, Ian 'Sproggy' Sproson & Corky can't make it due to prior arrangements so Des Basterfield has very kindly stepped in for the night. Des has his own band 'Flat Cap Two' but also plays solo, he has been a guest at the club and went down really well. He describes his music as 'Rock 'n' Roll, Folk via Reggae and swing with a bit of Anarchy thrown in for good measure.' lol! But it's a Singer's night so anyone is welcome to come along and perform, so hope to see you there, luv L xx

22/05/2013

friday night update

Hiya gang, hope you are all okay, just a short note to tell you it's a club week. This Friday is a Singer/Musician/Poet's night, so it's your chance to come along and perform or try out a new song or poem. Unfortunately, Ian 'Sproggy' Sproson has prior engagements, so I'd be grateful if anyone is available to 'Stand in' for him as resident singer then we're back to normal in two weeks. Our guest will be a well known face, the brilliant Alun Parry, on 7th of June. Club Starts 20:30pm, hope to see you Friday, luv L xx

14/05/2013

friday night review

Hiya gang, well, "Best Laid Plans" and all that went right out the window on Friday. A big thanks to everyone who turned up and made it such an excellent night, Steven Ireland, Jon Poole (although he's better known as JP Slidewell), "Harry", Joe "The Rochdale Ranter", Steve Woolley & Stuart Thompson, plus our very own Ian "Sproggy" Sproson, you were all brilliant! Now all I have to do is get you all to turn up on a Singer's Night, lol! Next club night is 24th of May which is a Singer/Musician/Poet's night, hope to see you there luv L xx

09/05/2013

friday update

Hiya gang, just a short note to let you know this Friday is a guest night, although there is a minor change. Steven Ireland our guest is a superb musician and all round entertainer, unfortunately, a few weeks ago he injured his hand, so even though he will be there and will perform, he won't be this weeks guest. So our guest will be Jon Poole, Jon was a regular member at our club in the 80's and as I understand it, hasn't been back on the folk scene for long and has very kindly agreed to step in on Friday and Steven will perform his full repertoire later on in the year. So really you'll be getting two guests to entertain you, hope to see you Friday. Club starts 20:30pm luv L xx

25/04/2013

friday update

Hiya gang, hope you're all well. This Friday is a club night, this week is a Singer/Musician/Poet's night, anyone is welcome to come along and perform and as it's not a Guest night, there is no need to book a slot, just come to the club as usual. Singer/Musician/Poet's night are also good for people to try out new songs or poems etc. Next Guest night is May 10th with the brilliant Musician, Steven Ireland, hope to see you Friday, luv L xx

18/04/2013

friday review

Hiya gang, sorry for the delay in doing the review for last Friday. Thank you to Michelle & Bonz for a truly entertaining night, we were even lucky lucky enough to have a solo song by Bonz, which went down really well, including his Rhythm & Blues version of 'My Girl' by Temptation, Excellent! More solo's please Bonz! Thank you to Ian Sproson, Steve Woolley and Poet extraordinaire, Simon Rusty for such an excellent night. Next club night is 26th of April, which is a Singer/Musician/Poet's night, hope to see you there, luv L xx

10/04/2013

friday update

Hiya gang, just a short note to tell you this Friday is a guest night. Our Guest is the superb Michelle Holding & Bonz, Michelle & Bonz appeared at the club last year and went down a storm! They were also asked to return for the Christmas party at short notice & were a fantastic end to last year, so really well worth coming to see. I can only apologise that we had to cancel the last two club nights and understandably some people were disappointed.

A decision to close a club night really isn't taken lightly and is a diplomatic discussion taken & agreed by three people, Ian our resident singer, Kevin a club member & myself. If it is decided to cancel then I try to contact as many people as possible by blog, facebook, email, text or phone, unfortunately I can't always reach everyone. Please join our facebook page or if you can let me have contact details so if ever this situation arises you will know as soon as possible of changes and no one is disappointed. I hope to see you Friday, if you wish to perform as a floor spot, please contact me asap as I can't guarantee adding to the list on the night. Many thanks luv L xx

02/04/2013

update

Thank you Mike and Evan for your comments which have been taken on board. My decsion to cancel club nights are not taken lightly, recently the Cleveland Hotel has had problems with their boiler which results in the room being extremely cold also our resident singer lives in Littleborough so I have to consider his travel arrangements, but something only a few members are aware of is I need to be on an oxygen machine for 16 hours a day, so it's not advisable to sit in a cold room on a singers night when it's -2/-5 degrees outside on the off chance someone will turn up. We do regularly turn up on singers nights, but if it's decided not to open the club it's not solely my decision and I endeavour to contact as many people as I can via the blog, facebook, emails or text giving as much notice as I can that there would be no club that Friday. If you join our facebook page you would automatically be notified of any last minute changes and avoid any disappointment, Mike if you let me have your receipt for the local Hotel so I can consider some reimbursement. I would suggest to anyone considering travelling some 300 miles to any club contact them in advance so there is no disappointment in the future. The next club night is 12th April, our guest is the superb Michelle Holding and Bonz who on previous visits have been brilliant, I hope you can make it on that night and I'm really sorry about your bad experience. Mike could you make me aware you are at the club if I haven't already seen you, take care see you all on the 12 th April, luv Lxx

29/03/2013

Sorry

Hiya gang, sorry but due to unforeseen circumstances the folk club will closed tonight, sorry. Next folk night is 12th of April, when the guest is the brilliant Michelle Holding and Bonz. Michelle and Bonz have been at the club before and really aren't worth missing! So put that one in your diary see you on the 12th of April luv L xx

22/03/2013

update

Hiya gang, unfortunately due to adverse weather conditions, the folk club will be cancelled tonight, but reopen next week the 29th of March. Sorry for any inconvenience but hope to see you next Friday instead, luv L xx

friday night review

Hiya gang, what a brilliant club night it was this Friday, it really is getting better every time. Resident singer Ian Sproson got things started, still on his railway high lol! We then had a new comer, Mike Goodwell, Mike asked to sing two songs and was so surprised when some of us knew them and joined in. He sang another two in the second half, I hope we made him feel welcome and I hope he'll come back again. Regular, Steve Woolley, also joined us and sang, but the night really did have to go to Steven Ireland and his 'One Man Band' absolutely brilliant! Steven with the help of his dad, put together, drums, symbols, tambourine, and a hooter too, using everything from, mechano pieces, fishing frame, backpack, even trainers with loops to connect his contraption together. So not only playing accordion, Steven walked from side to side, providing his own backing track lol! Steven says he wants to tweak it a bit more, but what a superb invention, well done! I'm sure once his muscles have got used to all the extra work, there will be no stopping him. Oops, I nearly forgot, thank you Paul for keeping your promise to sing a song which he made up on the night, it was untitled but I think 'Lost Love Found' would be my suggestion. Thank you to everyone for such a great singer's night, next club night is on the 8th of March, with guest Garron Frith, hope to see you all then, luv L xx

friday night review

Hiya gang, as I was unable to make it to the club on Friday due to illness Ian Sproson kindly stood in for me. The guest was Pete Ryder, and I had previously indicated it would be a good night and Pete didn't disappoint.

And this was Ian Sproson's view "I can't put my finger on what magic Peter Ryder had but within seconds we were hanging on every note and word. The 2 sisters were great as a backing group, suggested names in a sealed envelope to be handed to Lorna a week and Friday. We all gelled together in a way I haven't seen for a long time and if anyone who wasn't there sees the name Pete Ryder on the poster just GET THERE!!. A great night is guaranteed."

Thank you so much Ian and Kevin, for helping me out on this occasion. The Next club night is the 22nd of February, which is a singer/musician/poet's night, hope to see you then, luv L xx

club update

Hiya gang, hope you've all managed to survive the snow without breaking any bones. Sorry I had to cancel the last club night at such short notice, but the weather was far too horrendous for anyone to be going out in. Just a short note to tell you it's a club night on Friday 8th, it's a guest week our guest is such a legend in the folk scene, he's been singing and songwriting since the 60's, the fantastic singer/songwriter Pete Ryder. Although Pete's not been on the folk scene doing gigs, he's been mainly working with other session musicians and has recently returned to a solo career. Pete came to our club last year, and one of his songs 'Nat Shapiro's Time' has been stuck in my head since, I think everybody will be in for a good night. Pete truly is a guest that shouldn't be missed. Club starts at 20:30pm be there early to get a seat, luv L xx

friday night review

Hiya gang, well what a brilliant night, however it was the floor spots that stole the night. Ian as usual got everything started, Steven Ireland accordion supreme had everybody clapping and whooping, and the fantastic Simon Rusty our superb man of many words and comedic delivery of his poetry had everyone in hysterics and Steve Woolley was on top form. There was so much to get in that the club ran over till nearly 11:30, just in time for last orders bell down stairs. It truly was an excellent night for the first club night in the new year. The next club night is the 25th of January, all floor spots welcome. luv L xx

After recording his recent album 'Telemark' in Skien, Norway, Stuart has been a frequent guest at a number of festivals and describes his music as 'Country, Conjunto and Southern Soul a la Dan Penn'. Although different to usual traditional and contemporary folk music, Stuart is well worth seeing. Club starts at 20:30 hope to see you then, luv L xx
