Christmas party review

Hiya guys, thank you so much to everyone who came to the Christmas party on Friday night and made it a brilliant end of year party. First, I'd like to thank Suzanne Holding for helping blow up balloons, also Steven Ireland, Jim Boran and Kevin Roddy for helping put decorations up. A big thank you to Michelle and Bonz for entertaining us all, as well as Mike Harding who accompanied Michelle and Bonz, playing Harmonica and Mandolin. Mike also joined regular sing/musician Steve Woolley. The evening began with our very own resident singer, the lovely Ian Sproson, who got things off to a flying start. It was also nice to see John Billock again, John was a regular singer/songwriter/musician the first time the folk club was at the Cleveland Hotel, he was a very young man then! A new regular to our club is musician, Steven Ireland, Steven recently moved to the area, he plays a number of instruments and played Accordion on Friday, with Irish jigs and Russian folk, Steven is currently building 'A One-man band' and hopes to have it completed in the new year.

After Steven's superb performance, our guests of the night Michelle and Bonz played well known songs from their vast repertoire. After a short break, Des Basterfield performed, Des was a recent guest but is becoming a regular to add a bit of variety and anarchy to the mix, I've still not seen these silver shoes! The night played well over time but was well worth it, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank those who have supported the club as Singer's, Musician's or Club Member's and people behind the scenes, doing posters, accounts and publicity, they know who they are and without their help the club would not run as smoothly as it does. So, until January 11th 2013 I'd like to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and let's hope that the club continues to grow. A small foot note I'd like to mention, on Friday, singer/songwriter/musician Alan Taylor came to the club, but due to injury was unable to play, I understand Alan is going in for surgery very soon, our thoughts and prayers are with him and the hope for a speedy recovery so next time Alan comes to the club, he too can perform. luv and best wishes L xx

club update

Hi gang, the freezing weathers gone so Manchester's back to normal . . . cold, wet and windy. One thing's for sure, the heating's on in the upstairs room and Petra's even putting the bar on upstairs. Crackers, poppers and a fantastic guest, Michelle Holding, and much more . . . what more can a Christmas party ask for? So instead of staying at home, watching boring TV, come and join us at the club, let's make it an end of the year party to remember! Be there or be talked about, Luv Lorna xx

Friday Night Review

Hiya gang, well, for a singer's night what a really good night we had. We had three new artists come to the club, Steven Ireland has recently move to Crumpsall and will fit in very well with the club, he played Accordion, playing Gypsy style and Russian folk music. Steven informed me he also plays mandolin and is working towards building a one-man band busker. He has the parts he's just got to put it all together, lol! This will take a few months and I'll keep you posted. Steven also brought a friend, Paul, who entertained us by asking for topical subjects, he would then put music and lyrics to it, which was quite good fun. There was also, Harry, who kept very quiet till the second half, but then dedicated 'I Love my Dog' to Corky, Ian's guide dog - who has also become our mascot. He also did his version of 'Winter's Tale' by David Essex, and 'Streets of London' by Ralf McTel, it really was up there as one of the best singer's night. This Friday the 14th will be the last club night of the year, so we are having our Christmas Party with special guest the fantastic, Michelle Holding and Bonz. Last time Michelle was here it was a brilliant night, enjoyed by everyone, there are also a few surprise guests and you never know, I too may sing, lol! It would be good to see you, so we can end 2012 with a musical bang, see you Friday starts 20:30 prompt until 23:30 luv L xx

P.S.
Anybody wishing to sing or play on the night, must contact me by phone no later than Thursday.

club update

Hiya gang, just a short note to tell you this Friday the 7th Dec is a singer's musician's and poet's night, so anyone can come along to perform. Also slight change, next Friday the 14th Dec we are having the club Christmas Party, with special guest Michelle Holding and Bonz. We also have some members from Poulton-Le-Fyldes folk club, who are coming along to perform, I'm sure there will be plenty of song and Christmas cheer. So join in the spirit of Christmas and come along to the club. The club will be closed until Jan 11th which opens with a guest night, our guest is local singer/songwriter, Stuart Warburton from Bury. Hope to see you this Friday or for the party on the 14th, luv Lxx

Friday Night Review

Hi gang, sorry for the late review, computers and modern technology. . . enough said. "Hangover fading but whew! What a night. What can be said about Roydan that hasn't been said before. Not only does he do what it says on the tin, but one hell of a lot more. It was a roller coaster night careered along without loosing momentum. Many different styles and guest performers just added, added and added soooo much to the night. Hope one of us can get the pics/vids up on this site cos Roydan and his friends deserve all the success that we can throw at them. Here's to the next time hopefully soon! Just remember it's Roydan Styles. . . and Co. cos everyone in the band is a star too!" - Ian Sproson.

Well what can I say that Ian hasn't already said, although I can tell you the musicians names. We started the night with resident singer, Ian Sproson before I, myself took a backseat for one night as the incredibly talented Roydan Styles took over the night and played an excellent Master of Ceremonies, although I know he has got years of experience. Roydan's wife, Nicky Chaplin was on lead vocals and electric double base, we also had, Jonny Hulme on five string banjo. Anthony Scruton was on percussion, Bas 'Sax' Collingwood on Saxophone, and together they were an excellent alliance of superb talents. Another lady that came with Roydan, Kate Thomson, sang and played guitar, we also had an extra visit from the brilliant Des Basterfield minus silver shoes, lol, over all it was absolutely amazing night.

We've made a minor change to the club calendar, instead of finishing on the 7th of Dec, we've added an extra night so on Friday the 14th it will be the club Christmas party, with special guests: Michelle Holding accompanied by Bonz. So that's something that looks to be another brilliant night, if her last appearance is anything to go by. We are then closed and reopen on Jan the 11th, with a guest night, our guest is Stuart Warburton. So I hope to see you on the 7th if not hopefully on the 14th for the Christmas party, I'm sure there will be a few more surprises. Luv Lxx
