Club update

Hiya gang, hope everyone is well, I did say it would be hard for me to let go of the club and the lovely people I've met over the years. I also said I'd find ways for us all to meet up and catch up, so here's the first one, hopefully one of many. On the 18th of December, we are holding the club's annual Christmas Party, everybody's welcome the guest for the night is the fabulously talented and entertaining, Roydan Styles!

The night is also open to other musicians/singers/poets and accoustic musicions, however you must let me or Roydan know asap if you wish to perform on the night. If you don't contact either of us, you will not just be put on the list on the night. I'm trying to arrange with the landlady for a hotpot supper, but she is away on Holiday at this time, will keep you updated on that. Club will be open on the 18th December at 20:30 with 23:30 bar, hope to see you there, luv Lxx

club update

Hiya gang, hope all is well, this week is a singers/musicians/poets/acoustic night. A singers night provides a forum for anyone to perform to an audience, it doesn't matter if you are a well known artist trying a new song or a new artist starting out everyone has to start somewhere. Secondly singers nights help raise funds in order to provide guests once a month, so please try to make it, club starts 20:30, hope to see you there, luv Lxx

club update

Hi gang just a short note to let you know tomorrow is a guest night at the club our guest is the brilliant Darren Poyzer. Raised on comedy, performance poetry and an understanding family, he turns the angst of a Thatcher-era teenager into a burst of musical theatre, using little more than voice and acoustic guitar. Darren is one guest not to be missed and maybe joined by fellow club goer Roydan Styles club opens 8.30pm hope to see you there luv Lxx

club update by Ian Sproson

Hello gang, just a quick note that's it is a singer, musician, poet, monologue teller and teller of tales. Even a bank teller if they can sing etc. This Friday night. Me and Jack will be running the show so we need all the help we can get, so come and give us a great night. Almost anything goes as long as it's acoustic, amps only allowed if accompanied by a responsible musician/singer.

club update

Hiya gang, this Friday is a guest night and our guest is the fantastically talented John Watterson as Fake Thackray. John always loved watching Jake Thackray, Jake was a well known singer/songwriter and poet in the 60's and 70's, his songs were topical comedy and with his witty lyrics and Yorkshire accent, he was often known as the North Country Noel Coward. Jake passed away in 2002 and so when Jake died, John didn't want his songs to be forgotten and as a talented musician himself decided to make it his vocation to keep Jake's songs remembered. John travelled with Fair Port Convention and 30 Shows in the Edinburgh festival and much, much more including performing in front of Jake's wife on a tribute night. The club opens at 20:30 and the door charge is increased to £5 this week and will be back to normal the next club night, I feel we are in for a great night and would love to see you there, luv Lxx

club review by Jack McCully

It was a quiet night on Friday with an audience of only one. Things were looking a bit bleak until the music started.

Terry Kliszcz and Ray Greenwood who used to perform as THE JANGLE BAND started the evening with a great set of tunes and songs. It suddenly didn`t matter about the tiny audience. I knew I was going to enjoy the rest of the night. We next had a few songs from Ian Sproson the club resident singer. He was followed by me the club resident advert for Holts bitter. After all the traditional stuff Peter Crossley did a few songs in a more contemporary style maintaining the healthy mixture of styles that is normal in the club.

After a short interval we did it all again. It was more like a cosy little private party than a folk club.
Terry, Ray and Peter were all strangers to me and I am glad they turned up. Without them it would only have been Ian and I serenading one another.

This all happened at The New Cleveland Folk Club Unplugged. Do all you absentees remember where it is?

Sorry. couldn`t resist that last bit.

club update

Hi gang, hope you are all well just a short reminder that this Friday is a singers, musicians and poets night this means that anyone can come and perform, play any instruments, sing and it doesn't have to be sea shanty or traditional whaling sea song lol! Our audience will welcome you, everyone has to start somewhere, the club opens at 8.30pm and we are always upstairs in the smaller room, hope you can make it look forward to seeing you, luv Lxx

club update

Hi gang, hope you're all ok, this Friday is another guest night, gosh you're being so spoiled recently can't remember last singers night lol! This week our guest is the brilliantly talented singer/songwriter and musician Des Basterfield, Des has played at the club before, some of you may remember his friend Ed who Plays saxophone turned up, it was a specific type of instrument that Jack talked about but I don't know instruments so I'm no use lol! Plus some friends who came with this lady who paired people up and got them up dancing, sounds like an odd folk night but it was really good so anything can happen. One things for sure it'll be a great night, club opens at 8.30pm, it would be nice to see you there, luv Lxx

club update by Ian Sproson

Because of various problems during the winter months we have a pile up of guests because of the weeks we were forced to cancel. However this Friday will be really special. We are not only proud but honoured have as our guest Camilla Rose all the way live in person, from Portland Oregon. When I first met her at the airport she was nothing like what I expected, but a million times better. Her style of presentation is unlike anything you have seen before. As you would expect she plays and sings country music with a massive repertoire including old favourites and many songs written by herself. She has a wonderful deep round voice and certainly like myself does not need an amp. This is a unique opportunity which is very unlikely to come our way for a very long time. We hope that see you there.

club update

Hi gang I'm so sorry update is so late tonight is club night and also a guest night. Our guests some of you may know or if you were at the Xmas party you would have been blown away by them. Walk like fool does are a relatively new band with guitarists, drummer, accordion player and singer but you may already know the members as they started of as separate artists at the club, their style of music is kinda gypsy/romany I think is the best way to describe it but it's foot tapping hand clapping music that I'm will appeal to everyone and I am sure it will be a great night, I hope you can make it. Club opens at 8.30pm hope to see you there luv Lxx

Club review by Jack McCully

Hi, I`m going to start this review a little bit differently by getting something off my chest. The Cleveland is an ideal venue for a folk club. It has a room where the noise from downstairs is unable to penetrate, it serves real ale in excellent condition at very reasonable prices and is in an easily accessible area. So why on a guest night were there only ten people in the room? That figure includes Lorna, the club guest Kevin Seisay and kevin and carolann Roddy who assist Lorna on club nights. If you were not there on Friday here is a message for you. GET YER BACKSIDE DOWN TO THE CLEVELAND ON A FRIDAY AND GIVE LORNA THE SUPPORT SHE DESERVES.
OK I managed to say that without using language that would be inappropriate. The evening started with resident singer Ian Sproson doing one of his black country songs and continued with Jonny Rep followed by my contribution to the evening. We then had a welcome visit from Bo weevil fiddler Dom Dudill who played a selection of tunes for us. The first half was brought to a conclusion by our excellent guest Kevin Seisay. Kevins` style reminded me of my other love in music, trad jazz.
In the second half Jonny Rep was accompanied by Dom to make a sort of Bo weevil minus four plus one. Can you get you head round that? After all the floor singers had done their second spot, a very enjoyable evening was rounded off by guest Kevin Seisay. If you were there, thanks for coming.

club update

Hi gang, hope you're all well, as many of you know the last club night had to be cancelled, so this week is a guest night. Our guest this Friday is the absolutely brilliant singer songwriter and musician, and comedy sketch writer, Kevin Seisay, Kevin came to see Jo Zeff at the X-mas party and even joined in and played for us. Since Kevin has returned to music, his style has changed somewhat and Kevin said he wants to return to his roots and where his music started, so Friday night will not only be a great night it may even be a night of history. The club opens at 8.30pm hope you can make it see you Friday luv Lxx

club update

Hi gang hope you're all ok, well this week is a guest night at the club and what a guest we have the absolutely brilliant singer songwriter comedian and comedy writer Kevin Seisay. If you were at the Xmas party he did a short spot for us, Kevin used to come to the club the first time and was really popular then and went on to write comedy sketches including Saturday Night Live and many more. I'm sure we are in for a good night, club opens at 20:30 hope to see you there, but I'm sure you'll kick yourself if you miss it, take care and see you Friday, luv Lxx

P.S. Although it's going to be cold outside, it's going to be warm with laughter inside lol!

club update

Hi gang I hope everyone had been a good Christmas and New Year and duly booked in their local Gym or searching for the easiest diet online lol!My advice don't bother people like you just for you. Well it's that time again the club reopens this week for it's fourth year well done you lot. This week is a singers musicians poets acoustic which basically means anyone can pretty much come to the club and do anything (within reason!) to entertain the audience we're an easy going bunch enjoy most things including a One man band' lol !! guest wise there are a few new face's and great surprise's so the ways to find out what's going on is keep involved on this page or the blog poster's and flyer's but the best way is to come along to the club. The club opens at 8.30pm I hope to see you there luv Lxx.
