Friday Night Review

Hiya gang, I was sorry to hear a few of our regular members were unable to make it on Friday due to other plans that were unavoidable, we did miss you and hope to see you back next time. The night started off quite slow really, the weather didn't help either, so we were using brute force to open windows lol, we even managed to open the door to the veranda, which hasn't been opened to my knowledge for the last year or so!! With the room a bit cooler Ian Sproson got us off to a good start, we were also lucky to have two new artists to the club. Chris Rogan joined us and sang a beautiful song 'Set My Dreams Free' which he had written, plus others, a really talented singer songwriter, but I'm sure he has already been told that many times before. Steve Woolly came with one of my favourite musicians, the lovely Stuart Thompson and in no time they were all joining in with each other,  playing well known songs turning it into more of  a jamming session!  Another friend of Steve's Dave Hammond, came in late on in the evening and although he said he was a bit rusty he played and sang really well, plus as he didn't know the club was there, I'm sure he will be back again. Everyone seemed to be having such a good time, it was hard to get them to finish  We have had a good friend of  Mike Bowden's,  Dick (not Richard)  or 'Weymouth'  who has started coming to the club more regularly, and has restarted an old harmonious refrain we had many moons ago at the Cleveland at the end of the night, 'pass your glasses to the bar''!!  or 'Me Dad's Drunk Again'  which was always requested from Ian Sproson !! where did I leave my Tardis?? lol.  The next club night is June 8th with the brilliant Claire Mooney, not to be missed.  Until then enjoy the sunny weather luv Lxx

Friday night review

Hiya gang, firstly I glad to report, our resident singer Ian Sproson is feeling alot better and will be fighting fit for next folk night. Sproggy was really missed on Friday,  but the extremely entertaining Keep the change Bob  very kindly stood in for Ian to start off the night .Our guest was the superb and exceptionally talented Alun Parry, Alun wasted no time getting us joining in with all well known favourite's including 'The Dirty Thirty', 'Go to work on Monday' and two of my favourites 'If Harry don't go' and 'Waiting for the lovers' and more. It was nice to have an old friend of the Cleveland folk club from the first time around Walter Brown, Walter sang a beautiful song, 'A thousand miles away' about  a soldier in the armed forces, also 'Accrington station gates'. We also had our regular poet extraordinaire Simon Rusty, who  delighted us with parts of his repertoire including ' A brief hysterical rhyme by Prof  Stephen Hawkins' Simon has a book out with a collection of his poetry 'the Satical Verses'  by Simon Rusty,  please make sure you get the right one!! With a few songs from  regular club member Steve Woolly,  then  Alun finished the night with the folk version of  Nickleback's 'rockstar' 'I wanna be a folkstar' (check out facebook page for the club or youtube to hear this and some of Alun's performances)  and 'Oh Mr Cameron' which was partly written by Alun's mum!! On the whole a good night was had by all. With even more new faces that didn't know about the  club, who really enjoyed themselves, it's beginning to feel like it used to be. The next club night is 25th May, a singers and musicians night look forward to hopefully seeing you there luv Lxx

Club update

Hiya gang, just a short note to remind everyone tomorrow (11th May) is a guest night, our guest is extremely talented Alun Parry. Alun appeared at the club last year and is back by popular  demand, he is an excellent songwriter and performer, he's a pretty nice guy too. Alun also runs his own club, the Woody Guthrie folk club in Liverpool which is the first Thursday of the month, and is always a complete sell out within days of tickets going on sale!! Alun is definitely well worth making the effort to see,  I'm sure he won't disappoint hope to see you there  luv Lxx

Friday night review

Hiya gang, Fridays  just keep getting better, in the words of Ian Sproson "What a night you all missed! Should have been there to hear some fantastic music with 2 lads we haven't seen before but Lorna should book em sharpish!!!" I couldn't have put it better myself lol ! Those "lads" are better known  as Dave Mather's and Pete Robinson from Salford City radio (94.4 FM every Thursday 6pm to 7pm). Dave and Pete performed a number songs ranging from Eric Boyle's song to Jake Thackeray including songs they had written I have to say it really was an excellent night and I'm sure like other singers and musicians that have come to the club, they will come back If you would like to see Dave and Pete performing, they are at The Wagon and Horses Salford alternate Thursdays, but check before you go. The next club night is May 11th, our guest is the fantastic singer songwriter Alun Parry from Liverpool, Alun is definitely well worth seeing he really  is a superb songwriter and performer, I know you won't be disappointed. Hope to see you there luv Lxx
