club update

Hiya gang, this Friday is a guest night and our guest is the fantastically talented John Watterson as Fake Thackray. John always loved watching Jake Thackray, Jake was a well known singer/songwriter and poet in the 60's and 70's, his songs were topical comedy and with his witty lyrics and Yorkshire accent, he was often known as the North Country Noel Coward. Jake passed away in 2002 and so when Jake died, John didn't want his songs to be forgotten and as a talented musician himself decided to make it his vocation to keep Jake's songs remembered. John travelled with Fair Port Convention and 30 Shows in the Edinburgh festival and much, much more including performing in front of Jake's wife on a tribute night. The club opens at 20:30 and the door charge is increased to £5 this week and will be back to normal the next club night, I feel we are in for a great night and would love to see you there, luv Lxx

club review by Jack McCully

It was a quiet night on Friday with an audience of only one. Things were looking a bit bleak until the music started.

Terry Kliszcz and Ray Greenwood who used to perform as THE JANGLE BAND started the evening with a great set of tunes and songs. It suddenly didn`t matter about the tiny audience. I knew I was going to enjoy the rest of the night. We next had a few songs from Ian Sproson the club resident singer. He was followed by me the club resident advert for Holts bitter. After all the traditional stuff Peter Crossley did a few songs in a more contemporary style maintaining the healthy mixture of styles that is normal in the club.

After a short interval we did it all again. It was more like a cosy little private party than a folk club.
Terry, Ray and Peter were all strangers to me and I am glad they turned up. Without them it would only have been Ian and I serenading one another.

This all happened at The New Cleveland Folk Club Unplugged. Do all you absentees remember where it is?

Sorry. couldn`t resist that last bit.

Our audience will welcome you, everyone has to start somewhere, the club opens at 8.30pm and we are always upstairs in the smaller room, hope you can make it look forward to seeing you, luv Lxx
